Lightning Sprints
In what can only be described as a monumental move forward, the Australian Lightning Sprint Racing Association has been formed after a long process of consultation and negotiation. The formation of Lightning Sprints brings together a number of similar winged classes from five states under the one racing category, Litre Sprints from Queensland and New South Wales, Minisprints from Tasmania and Victoria and South Australian V6 Sprints.
A meeting was held in Melbourne this past weekend which was attended by representatives of each state involved, along with Dale Gilson and Neil Sayer representing NASR. This meeting saw the new national association’s committee elected as follows: President Peter Campbell, QLD, Vice President Peter Kruska, TAS, 2nd Vice President Clayton Priest, NSW, Secretary/Treasurer Colin Bell, NSW, 2nd Secretary/Treasurer Bronwyn Sheen, VIC. General committee, Lee Payne, SA, Michael Buxallen, SA, Chris Milton, VIC, Tim Mason, TAS, Bruce Ayers, QLD. The new committee would like to acknowledge, with thanks, the assistance and advice given by both Dale and Neil.
For the immediate future the individual specifications of each class will be recognized and eligible to compete at meetings held in any of the states involved. It is anticipated that the inaugural Lightning Sprint Australian Title will be conducted in the upcoming 2009-2010 season which will, no doubt, be a highly prized and hotly contested event.
